Through conversations, walks, public events, performances, exhibitions and workshops we’re activating public spaces, streets, parks, town centres, and empty shops across the Whau area to build our creative culture and community.
Whau Community Arts Brokering
Whau Community Arts Brokering is a community service supported by the Whau Local Board tapping into the existing creative community in the Whau area to support the presentation of a range of temporary arts activities and activations in our urban environment.
By brokering arts activity by and for the people of the Whau we aim to nurture and share the cultural and creative vibrancy of our Whau communities.
What we support
We’re interested in what you’re interested in doing in the Whau, be it presenting a public event, performance, or exhibition or creating an opportunity for learning and participation like a workshop or a work co-created with a community. We’re open to ideas which place an emphasis on process, participation and social agency.
If your project will benefit the Whau through enriching its places and people or providing them with an opportunity to participate in the arts then get in touch.
How it works
The broker works with you to support you to bring your initiative to the Whau public.
We start with a conversation about what it is you want to do and from there work out what support you need. This can range from advice and assistance with council processes and grant applications to funding for project presentation and marketing assistance. We can also help you meet other creative people and organisations in the Whau.
Getting in contact
When you get in touch make sure to let her know: who you are, what it is you want to do, where and when you think it will happen, who your audiences are, and how it relates to the Whau area.

Whau Community Arts Broker is excited to be opening their annual call for creative proposals. Every year the broker provides support for creative projects to happen locally in New Lynn, Green Bay, Kelston, Rosebank, Waterview, Avondale, New Windsor and Blockhouse Bay.
We are looking for people and organisations to submit ideas for creative projects in any artform that happen in and with local communities. The call for proposals closes 9 am Monday morning on August 21.
