Inter+generation

Inter+Generation is a project by Whau the People that uses art and creative practice as a way of forging connections between and amongst different generations living in the Whau, It engages with the idea of “heritage” from a contemporary perspective – exploring the idea of living memories and living history as something that is not ephemeral but tangible. How can we use creative mediums to not only capture but also creatively engage with the stories of the Whau that our older generations hold?

Planned activities between May and July include:
– poetry workshops, led by Amanda Eason, with a group of Avondale College students and Rosehill Gardens Retirement Village

– Kids at Avondale Pre-School and and residents of the Avondale Rest Home will collaborate with Numa McKenzie to design and paint a mural that will be painted on one of the walls of the Avondale Community Centre.

– Whau the People will work with younger people to record radio stories with older people
